Serendipity

Published by hvnlykarma under Weight Loss Edit This

Two days ago, my car had a nervous breakdown. I drove to my parent’s house to pick up my son and it was just fine - until I got back in the car to drive home.

It wouldn’t start. I turned the key and nothing. No sound at all, until I turned the key to the ‘off’ position. There was a weird noise coming the vicinity of the glove compartment. It sounded like, “tickatickatickatickatickaticka…” I removed the key. The ticking sound continued. When I tried to turn on my headlights to see if it was a battery problem, the noise shifted to the gauge area. All of this without the key in the ignition. Dad took us home. He called the next morning to tell me that when he went out to get the paper, the car was still ticking. Weird. Very weird.

So I don’t know if it’s an electrical problem or what. I’m no mechanic. I’ll have to have the car towed to one, though, and if it’s an electrical problem I may not be able to afford to have it fixed.

The thing is, I think this situation is perfect! Now I am forced to either walk to work or ride my bike which, if you’ve read previous posts of mine, we all know is a very, very good thing.

Everything happens for a reason. Cliche, I know, but I believe it. I don’t think the universe is telling me I should never have a car again, but I do think that the reason this happened was to force me to get off my butt and start moving.

So, I’m off to ride my bike to work today. With any luck at all, the universe will not decide that today (or any other day, for that matter) is the day for me to get squished by a car. The bike lane is almost non-existent.

Wish me luck!
